Why I Love Using Prime Lenses

As a photographer, I’m always looking for ways to improve my images. One of the best ways I’ve found to do this is to use prime lenses. Prime lenses are fixed focal length lenses, which means that they don’t zoom. This can be a drawback for some photographers, but I find it to be a major advantage.

There are several reasons why I love using prime lenses. First, they force me to be more creative. When I’m using a zoom lens, I can always zoom in or out to get the shot I want. But with a prime lens, I have to move my feet or the subject to get the composition I want. This forces me to think more about my shots and to be more deliberate in my photography.

Second, prime lenses are sharper than zoom lenses. This is because they have fewer elements and less glass, which reduces distortion and chromatic aberration. The extra sharpness can make a big difference in the quality of your images.

Third, prime lenses are often faster than zoom lenses. This means that they have a wider aperture, which allows more light to reach the sensor. This is important for low-light photography and for creating shallow depth of field effects.

I’ve been using prime lenses for a few years now, and I’ve never looked back. They’ve made me a better photographer, and I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to improve their own photography.

Specifically, I love using the Canon 135mm f/2L USM and the Canon 50mm f/1.4 STM lenses.

The Canon 135mm f/2L USM is a versatile lens that can be used for a variety of subjects, including portraits, landscapes, and street photography. It has a sharp image quality and a fast aperture that makes it ideal for low-light conditions.

The Canon 50mm f/1.4 STM is a great all-around lens that is perfect for everyday photography. It is also very affordable, making it a great option for budget-minded photographers. It has a sharp image quality and a fast aperture that makes it ideal for portraiture and low-light photography.
Of course i own a zoom lens 24-70 F2.8 and this is used often but if i can turn to a prime lens and get creative i do.

Here are some of the things that prime lenses bring to my shoots:

Sharpness: Prime lenses are typically sharper than zoom lenses, which is important for getting the best possible image quality.
Fast apertures: Prime lenses often have wider apertures than zoom lenses, which allows more light to reach the sensor. This is important for low-light photography and for creating shallow depth of field effects.
Bokeh: Prime lenses can create beautiful bokeh, which is the blur of the background behind the subject. This can be a very effective way to draw attention to the subject of the photo.
Creativity: Prime lenses force me to be more creative with my compositions. I have to think about how I can use the limited focal length to my advantage. This can lead to some really interesting and unique photos.
If you’re looking to improve your photography, I highly recommend using prime lenses. They’re a great way to get sharper images, create beautiful bokeh, and be more creative with your compositions.
